My First Time at the Istana for a National Day Reception!

I was invited to this Reception for the first time last night. It was a great opportunity to meet many people who have made significant contributions to Singapore. Besides grassroots leaders, there are also union leaders, sports and arts talents, academics and government-linked company’s managers. It was really exciting talking to and taking photos with some of them.

The first person I had a selfie with was Associate Professor Walter Theseira, the former Nominated Member of Parliament who had made good speeches in Parliament, many of which I have referred to when I was preparing my own speeches.

I took a group photo with the NTUC union leaders and thanked them for all the work they have done for the Singaporean workers. It is really a tough balancing act for them.

Of course, I will not miss out on a photo with Taufik Batisah, our first Singapore Idol and Minister Ong Ye Kung who has graciously agreed to join in.

I was also delighted to meet our academics and opinion leaders like Professor Chan Heng Chee, Associate Professor Simon Tay and Professor Tan Chorh Chuan. I am a keen follower of Prof Chan’s and A/P Tay’s views and opinions on international relations, and Prof Tan’s on COVID-19.

Besides the above, I would also like to thank the dozens of grassroots leaders who have spoken and taken photos with me.

Thank you all of you for your contributions to Singapore.

Majulah Singapura!

For Country, For People!
