Hari Raya 2021 Celebrations: Coping with Covid Restrictions

Wishing all Muslims Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri!

I hope that you will still have a joyous time spent with your loved ones, even despite the new safe management measures that have kicked in.

While these measures are necessary to prevent any further community spread, it is unfortunate that our Muslim friends have their celebrations affected for the second year running. To avert a similar situation for the third year running, we must all remain vigilante and the government should be reassessing what went wrong in order for us to tackle the virus’s spread once and for all.

It is really unfortunate that this year’s Hari Raya celebrations have been affected by social distancing restrictions again, and though the festivities have had to be scaled down, I had the chance to have one Hari Raya lunch with my Malay friend and his family last Sunday.

I had been looking forward to seeing his two adorable daughters again after almost a year. Look at Fatimah’s smile, absolutely adorable!

I like to spend time playing with kids and always find it very therapeutic. They are like little angels and their happy faces are also the biggest assurance that their families are doing well and parents are gainfully employed. I remember how stressed my late father was when he had been out of work and how it affected the whole family.

Will continue to push the government in Parliament to fulfill its fundamental duty of providing and protecting jobs.

Stay safe, and I wish all Muslim friends and blessed celebration.
